The delicate moths that flutter across the design — including the ethereal luna moth — come from an 1894 etching, while the little golden bumblebees on the trim are borrowed from an embossed Victorian book cover.

This print was born from an archive of antique beauty: 1891 watercolour and graphite studies of magnolia blossoms originally drawn for Tiffany & Co., Victorian lithographs of ripe peaches glowing like tiny suns, and a whimsical 1830 sketch of an imagined fountain and garden pavilion where one might spend an endless afternoon. Moths and butterflies flit along its edges, borrowed from early 19th-century insect encyclopedias, their delicate wings a whisper of transformation and flight.
Crafted by Market of Stars, from cozy printed cotton & spandex and lined with super soft poly-fleece, this Cottage Jacket combines the warmth and comfort of a cardigan with the style, versatility, and look of a MOS Starduster. They are washable, and include patch pockets.
About the print:
This lush and verdant botanical print comes from the “12 Months of Flowers”, a series of remarkably beautiful hand-coloured etchings from the 1700s by engraver Henry Fletcher. The prints were commissioned by famed English gardener Robert Furber, and were published as a catalogue of flowers and seeds according to season. MOS chose the Fletcher’s print from the month of March for its delightfully detailed blooms, and then layered the flowers together to create a wild and wonderful print that captures the exuberance of the garden. The charming bumblebee trim comes from a museum seed catalogue from the late 1800’s.
